When I was in fifth grade my family went on a trip to Hawaii. I had never been to Hawaii before so I was ecstatic, especially because we were gone for two weeks! We did so many fun things like: snorkeling, paddleboarding, shopping, hiking, and much more. I’m in love whenever I’m anywhere with sun and somewhere to swim, so this was the perfect vacation for me. Except on one night about halfway into the trip things took a crazy turn.
We had just gone to dinner and we were walking through a strip just looking around and all we heard was everyone wishing each other good luck. We were so confused, but just rubbed it off. But, then when we got back to our hotel we turned on the TV and saw a warning banner on the bottom of the screen. We had never been through something like this, so we were lost. Soon after that we heard sirens go off and we had to evacuate to the nearest airport. Since I was still pretty young I didn’t know exactly what a tsunami was which was probably a good thing. We couldn’t leave until they unblocked us out of the airport and it wasn’t until around 11am in which they did so. When we arrived back at the hotel we walked around and it was destroyed. Since we were staying on the ocean the pool was filled with sand and debris. A day or two later things went back to normal, but this is definitely something I will remember for the rest of my life.

Men as a whole can become detached from society; become emotional when troubling times come, but the problem with men is they don’t communicate with others how they truly feel about something. Even I fall victim into this statement. Why this is a crucial topic in society is the amount of school shootings has gone up but all the school shooters have been male high school students. Maybe this fact is just a coincidence and men aren’t the reason why school gun violence has gone up but the fact is women express themselves more clearly to others than men do. Some men don’t even express themselves at all. Let's take a time travel back into the stone ages where the purpose of men in society was hunting and supporting the family when so many predators and threats were out in the world; and this was a way for men to release their anger and energy for the day. In today's society everything is based on money, being able to eat is the possession of money and being able to pay for ones food; not by hurting another individual or hunting for food in the wild. Because of how society is in today's world men aren’t able to release out anger/frustration within them. Some may have ways of releasing this anger and aggression by working out, playing a sport, or even at a job becoming competitive in the workplace. Some men just deal with the rage inside them and hide it from the world and walk away ok; everyone has a different way of relaxation. But the very few amount of men who aren’t able to control their aggression on the world or even an individual take it out on them or even a large group of people such as a school in a violent way, which isn’t a healthy way of releasing anger. Being able to control one's feelings or even find coping mechanisms is the key to survival in today's society.
A life without technology is a life not many people have lived. We have become addicted to our phones and believe it or not, that is the producers number one intention--to keep us engaged and to keep coming back which in turn makes them money. We rely on technology for many things and without it some may not know how to function. However, it’s never too late to make the change and stop that.
Technology holds us back from many things. One of the biggest being we no longer go out and socialize face to face. We are locked in our phone and that stops us from learning important social skills and being in the moment with the people we are with. Social skills are such an important aspect for your job, meeting new people, and getting to know someone, so if we are not able to have a normal conversation face to face then that could damage many relationships or opportunities in our future. Another thing that technology holds us back from is being productive and excelling in certain parts of our life. Mostly everytime we procrastinate we turn to our phones which sucks us into a loop of pointlessly scrolling and scrolling until we have seen everything we feel we could have seen. We are just entertaining ourselves to death and none of this is productive and takes us away from the main thing we were suppose to be getting done. This results in falling short of certain goals and not being where we want to be. There are many more things that technology stops us from and without any change this will only get worse. There is hope to change this though, we just need to want to change and put out our best effort to do so. There are so many opportunities we miss out on from having our face locked in our screens and so many new encounter ships that could have happened if we would have just looked up. While technology does help in certain ways, we have become to dependent on it which has made it the new norm. But, it’s time we turn that norm around. Look up, form new relationships, be more productive and see just how far it will take you! Finding good books can be very frusterating and difficult, especially when you walk into a large bookstore with no clue as to where anything is or even what you are looking for. This is the truth with many stores in fact, and it may seem to many people that the mechandise is "just sitting on the shelves" when in fact the placement of every item has been carefully decided by many different people. There is a reason why they place a mixture of discounts and high priced items next to each other, one pulls you in and the other item encourages you to continue looking. Pretty soon, you will find yourself deep within the shelves of the corny romance stories with the realization that a 5.99 dollar book is such a good deal in comparison to the 25.99 dollar book you saw on your way in therefor you are totally allowed to buy six even seven copies. You most likely will end up spending more than you meant.
The psychology of stories is simular to casinos, in fact, many casinos have uneven flooring, high oxygenated air, and certain colors that inspire money spending while stores many times will play music that makes you want to claw your eardrums out and bright colors and lights. These tatics seem very opposite, which they are, but the goal of both places is gain as much money as possible. Casinos want you to stay as long as possible and stores want you buy as much as possible on impusles before you can fully comprehend what it is that you are picking up and putting in your basket. “Surviving the Sneaky Psychology of Supermarkets.” National Geographic, 15 June 2015, theplate.nationalgeographic.com/2015/06/15/surviving-the-sneaky-psychology-of-supermarkets/.
